Parliament questions alleged statement by Wigneswaran

Parliament today raised questions over a statement allegedly made by Northern Province Chief Minister C V Wigneswaran.

Opposition Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardena said that?Wigneswaran had made a statement which is a threat to the unity in?the country.

Wigneswaran was reported to have said that Sinhalese communities must not be settled in Tamil dominated areas in the North, nor should Buddhist Temples be erected.

Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella said that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will make a statement on the controversy which arose over the alleged statement made by Wigneswaran at a protest rally in Jaffna recently.

However?Kiriella said Wigneswaran had denied making the comments attributed to him in the media.

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader and opposition leader R. Sampanthan also noted that?Wigneswaran had denied making the comments. (Colombo Gazette)

SJB MP resigns from Parliament and quits politics

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Badulla Districts MP Chaminda Wijesiri resigned from Parliament today and quit politics for personal reasons. Wijesiri told Parliament that the public have rejected all 225 MPs, including himself and that has an impact on his family.
