President says he will not rename projects of ex-President

05-1President Maithripala Sirisena says he will not rename projects launched by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Speaking at a function to declare open the Sugaladevigama model village in Polonnaruwa today, the President said that his Government will take forward new development projects and maintain those already existing in the country.

He noted that the former President had destroyed name plaques erected by former Presidents and replaced them with his name.

In one incident, President Sirisena noted that a plaque erected at the site of the Nelum Pokuna Theatre with the name of former President Chandrika Kumaratunga, was destroyed by Rajapaksa.

President Sirisena noted that the Nelum Pokuna Theatre project was launched by Chandrika Kumaratunga with Chinese assistance when she was President.

However he says Rajapaksa destroyed the plaque at the site and relaunched the project with his name when he became President. (Colombo Gazette)
