Petition challenging “National Government” rejected

gavelA petition filed in Court challenging the formation of a “National Government” was rejected today.

The Supreme Court rejected the petition filed by two individuals who had stated that the National Government was not Constitutionally accepted.

In the petition, court intervention was sought to declare the cabinet of the National Government unlawful.

The petitioner noted that a National Government should consist of all political parties and not just the United National Party and Sri Lanka Freedom Party. (Colombo Gazette)
