External turbulence a challenge for Sri Lanka after budget

The Government says external turbulence will be a challenge for Sri Lanka?when implementing the proposed budget for 2017.

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake told reporters today that Sri Lanka will however need to confront any challenge it does not foresee.

He also said that misleading comments made by some political parties will also be a challenge for the Government.

The Government hopes to present the budget for 2017 to Parliament in November.

“We will do our best to ensure we get to the point we like Sri Lanka to be,” he said.

The Minister also said that the Government has been able to implement most of the proposals in the 2016 budget.

“There were some proposals which took time to implement like the VAT,” he added. (Colombo Gazette)

Crew from Sri Lanka on detained ship in Nigeria in good health

A Sri Lankan crew on a ship detained in Nigeria are in good health, the Foreign Ministry said today. The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Kenya, Velupillai Kananathan joined a consular visit to the vessel M/T Heroic IDUN along with the High Commissioners/ Diplomats of India, Poland and the Philippines on 27 November, 2022.
