Magistrate to decide on Friday on Interpol warrant for Udayanga

udayanga-weeratungaThe Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court will decide on Friday if to agree to a request to issue an arrest warrant for Sri Lanka’s former Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga through Interpol.

The police Financial Crimes Investigations Division sought the arrest warrant on Weeratunga as part of ongoing investigations over fraud.

The court had earlier rejected the request to issue a warrant through Interpol but today the Fort Magistrate said it will decide on the order again on Friday.

Udayanga Weeratunga is said to be in Ukraine and he is wanted to be questioned over the controversial MiG aircraft deal. (Colombo Gazette)
