Foreign Minister briefs UN human rights chief at the UN

Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera met the?UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad in New York and briefed him on the developments in the country.

The?Foreign Minister and?the?UN High Commissioner for Human Rights met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

It is believed that both sides discussed the progress in?the reconciliation process.

The meeting took place at a time the UN Human Rights Council was meeting in Geneva with Sri Lanka not on the agenda. (Colombo Gazette)

Five killed in Alawwa road accident

Five people have been killed in a road accident in Alawwa, the Police said. The Police said that a vehicle had crashed into a tipper-truck along the Colombo-Kurunegala road in the Alawwa Police division. Sri Lanka records its 12th coronavirus related death

Sri Lanka has recorded its 12th coronavirus related death, the Ministry of Health said today. According to the Health Ministry, a 47 year-old woman had died while receiving treatment at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) in Angoda. The woman is a resident of Mawathagama, Weuda, and had arrived from India on 20th August. Two missing, five rescued in the seas off Mount Lavinia

Two people have been reported missing and five others have been rescued in the seas off Mount Lavinia. The Police said that a group had gone to Mount Lavinia on a day out. A few of them had gone to bath in the sea when tragedy struck. The Police said that two 18 year-old youth had been dragged out to sea and are missing. Five others were rescued and brought ashore. A search operation has been launched to locate those missing. (Colombo Gazette)
