Sri Lankan refugees in Indian camp demand protection

Residents of a Sri Lankan refugees camp at Thoppukollai near Pudukottai in India observed fast to raise some concerns, The Hindu newspaper reported.

They alleged that some anti-social elements, allegedly armed with arms, were causing panic. Although it had been brought to the notice of the police, no concrete action had been taken to protect them.

Some unidentified persons had attacked five people?including Kamalanathan, president of the camp, with a sword.

The injured had been admitted to the Government hospital in the area.?The refugees wanted round-the-clock protection to be extended to the camp.

The?police revealed that some rivalry in trade caused the problem.

Eight Nigerians and two Sri Lankans arrested with cocaine

Eight Nigerians and two Sri Lankans were arrested at different locations with cocaine, the police said. The police narcotics bureau conducted a raid in the Mount Lavinia, Ragama and Battaramulla areas and arrested the foreigners and two locals. Over 200 grams of?cocaine was seized from the suspects.
