Security forces placed on alert to curb heroin smuggling

The security forces have been placed on alert to curb heroin being smuggled into the country, President Maithripala Sirisena said today. favicongenerator.org.

The President said that Sri Lanka is facing the challenge of preventing heroin being smuggled into the country using the sea route.

He said that being an island, Sri Lanka is being used to smuggle illegal items.

The President said that the issue has been discussed in recent times by the National Security Council.

He said the tri-forces, the police and customs department have taken steps to expand operations to curb the smuggling operations. (Colombo Gazette)
