President slams Mahinda at UNP anniversary event

dsc_0132President Maithripala Sirisena today slammed former President Mahinda Rajapaksa over his economic policies and on the human rights issue.

Speaking at the 70th anniversary celebrations of the United National Party in Colombo today, the President said that Rajapaksa lost the last Presidential election since he failed on the economy and human rights issue.

The President also said that he and the former Government had advised Rajapaksa not to hold an early Presidential election.

However he says Rajapaksa decided to go ahead with the election and he eventually had to face the consequences.

The President said that the current cohabitation Government has taken steps to address the human rights issue and put the economy back on track.

President Sirisena also urged the media not to be misled and publish false reports on the efforts of the Government to address the National issue.

He said the UNP and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party have a common goal on National issues and both are committed to work together on those issues. (Colombo Gazette)
