President of Iraq commends progress made by Sri Lanka

BA7T5164The President of Iraq Fuad Masum has commended the significant progress made by Sri Lanka in various fields, the Foreign Ministry said.

Sri Lanka’s new Ambassador to Iraq, Major General (Rtd) Niranjan Asoka Ranasinghe presented his Credentials to Masum at the Presidential Palace in Baghdad.

Following the Credentials ceremony, the Ambassador was given an audience with the President of the Republic of Iraq.

The Ambassador conveyed the greetings and best wishes from the President of Sri Lanka to the President of Iraq. In turn the President requested the Ambassador to convey his greetings and best wishes to President Maithripala Sirisena.

The Ambassador thereafter briefed the President of Iraq about the many significant developments that have taken place in Sri Lanka since January 2015, under the leadership of the President and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The President of Iraq commended on the significant progress made by Sri Lanka in various fields, under the new Government. The discussion focused on further strengthening the strong ties that exist between the two countries at present. (Colombo Gazette)
