India’s Customs air intelligence unit seized gold bars and jewellery weighing 832 gm and valued at Indian Rs 26 lakh, from two Sri Lankan women passengers at the Cochin International Airport, The Hindu newspaper reported.
The passengers had arrived by Sri Lankan Airlines Flight No. UL165. Officers of the air intelligence unit intercepted the passengers at the exit gate of the arrival hall. The gold bars had been concealed in sandals kept in the baggage while the jewellery was on them.
A team of officials led by Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Bangartale carried out the seizure.
