Death toll from Karuwalagaswewa elephant attack rises

Dead body in a mortuaryThe death toll from the Karuwalagaswewa elephant attack rose to two this afternoon.

One person was earlier killed and several others were injured after a wild elephant attacked a van in Karuwalagaswewa today.

The police said that 10 people were injured in the incident and were admitted to hospital.

Of the injured a five year old child had later died while receiving treatment in hospital. (Colombo Gazette)


  1. It may be an elephant attack, but the real reason is reckless driving, driving at wee hours at terrible speed, unable to spot elephants at reasonable distance. The driver should be criminally charged for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Do not blame elephants for highly reckless driving. Police commission and IGP should note this incident.Very few drivers care for the safety of passengers or pedestrians.
