Speaker defends process followed to pass OMP Bill

KaruSpeaker Karu Jayasuriya today defended the process followed yesterday to pass the Office on Missing Persons (OMP) Bill.

Jayasuriya also slammed the conduct of some joint opposition members in Parliament yesterday.

He said that some opposition members behaved in an unruly manner in the Well of the House when the OMP Bill was being discussed.

The joint opposition today raised objections to the manner in which the Bill was passed in Parliament.

However the Government insisted that the opposition had time to debate the Bill but instead they protested against it in Parliament. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Why the West didn’t push for the Office of the Missing Persons when the Tamil armed groups were mercilessly gunned down each other group members; and assassinating political leaders and intellectuals far more than any other terrorist groups in the world? Furthermore, why the West didn’t create office of the missing persons in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Don’t just follow the West. Think for a while and ask yourself, what is in it for the West for creating office of the missing persons?
