President wants new fighter aircraft for the Air Force


MiG23UB_SFT1701President Maithripala Sirisena has sought and obtained cabinet approval to purchase new fighter aircraft for the Sri Lanka Air Force.

The Government said that the fighter aircraft of the Sri Lanka Air Force have been aging and need to be replaced to meet the oceanic security and to be prepared for any unexpected threat.

Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defense, obtained cabinet approval to obtain expressions of interest from interested aircraft manufacturers, assistant manufacturers, and authorised Government agents on a Government to Government basis to purchase the aircraft for the Air Force.
