Higher Education Minister Lakshman Kiriella said that there are provisions in the law to ensure action is taken against university non-academic staff who staged a strike over several demands.
However he said that the law will be bent as the issue with the non-academic staff had been resolved.
The strike launched by the university non-academic staff came to an end today following talks held with the Minister.
The Minister later told reporters that both sides reached an agreement to resolve the issues faced by the university non-academic staff.
The Ministry had given a positive response to seven demands of the university non-academic staff.
Kiriella said that while a verbal assurance had been given to the non-academic staff earlier, it was now given in writing. (Colombo Gazette)
