SAITM rejects allegations on Malabe university

SAITMThe South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) strongly rejected various allegations being leveled against the institute located in Malabe.

One of the main allegations is that SAITM does not have any connection to a Russian university as claimed by the institute.

However SAITM Vice Chancellor Professor Ananda Samarasekera said that SAITM does have an affiliation with a Russian medical academy. He said that having an affiliation between a local and foreign university is nothing new and is seen in other countries as well.

Samarasekera said that under the memorandum of understanding with the Russian academy, students who follow the degree course at SAITM complete part of the programme in Sri Lanka and the other part in Russia.

He said that it is a six year programme and the Russian curriculum is followed. Separately SAITM also has its own MBBS degree on offer.

Professor Ananda Samarasekera said that all the allegations being raised against the institute are misleading and factually incorrect. (Colombo Gazette)
