Mahinda puts MS, Ranil on notice at mass rally

1470080686Outsidelead1DSC_7864FOpposition political parties and supporters of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa held a mass rally in Colombo today against the Government.

The rally was a culmination of a five day walk which began in Peradeniya last week with the participation of hundreds of opposition members and supporters.

Speaking at the final leg of the walk today, Rajapaksa said that the walk was a historic event as a huge number of opposition supporters had turned up.

Rajapaksa said that the walk is part of opposition efforts to remove the current Government led by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The protest focused on several issues including the cost of living, a proposed agreement to be signed with India and a war crimes investigation.

Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa said that the Government has launched a political witch-hunt against the opposition.

Namal Rajapaksa, who was recently arrested over fraud allegations but was later freed on bail, said that the government is misleading the public through its investigations on former government members. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. During previous government in power, all the media specially spearheaded by Sirasa Group character assassinated Ranil day and night. Now no media is attacking opposition, in fact are garlanding. That is Media or Press freedom the new government has achieved. Mahinda must appreciate the present government for creating this media environment where opposition can be heard and could make a come back.

Hello Raza such is the media freedom that state television hardly reported the news of the opposition protest march, only attack it.
So the state media is back to the old days with some idiot as the secretary to the media ministry who thinks he is a media pundit. Shame having people like that in important positions.
