Joint opposition accuses Government of duplicity

The joint opposition today accused the Government of duplicity saying it gives one message to the public and another to the international community.

Former Foreign Minister, Professor G.L Peiris said that some of the clauses in the resolution on Sri Lanka which was adopted by the UN Human Rights Council last year and was supported by the Government is a clear indication of how the Government has double standards on matters relating to the country. Operations at Sapugaskanda oil refinery to be halted again

Operations at the Sapugaskanda oil refinery will be halted again next week owing to the USD crisis in Sri Lanka. The Ministry of Energy said that the Sapugaskanda oil refinery will be shut from 3rd January to 30th January. Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila insisted that the decision to suspend operations at the Sapugaskanda oil refinery will, however, not result in a fuel shortage in Sri Lanka. Bus fares to increase from next week

A decision has ben taken to increase bus fares from next week, the Ministry of Transport said today. State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama said that the price increase will come into effect from 5th January, 2022. Accordingly, he said the minimum fare of Rs. 14 will be increased by Rs. 3 to Rs. 17. He also said that other fares will be increased by 17% by the State bus service and private bus operators.
