Former spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan says he never engaged in politics nor is he interested in politics.

Muralitharan also accused the Sri Lanka cricket board of attempting to use him to cover all the wrong they have done.

“They once said I was going to enter politics. I never did politics,” he said while speaking to reporters in Kandy today.

Muralitharan said that he has done a lot for the county after he retired from the game yet now several allegations are being raised against him.

Deputy Speaker and President of the Sri Lanka cricket board Thilanga Sumathipala had told reporters that he was disappointed at Muralitharan’s decision to join the Australian cricket team as a consultant.

Muralitharan responded saying he has been made a traitor for agreeing to be a consultant for Australia for 10 days despite all he did for the country.

“What has he done for the country?” Muralitharan asked with regards to the President of the cricket board.

Muralitharan said that he spent a lot to promote cricket in the country and what he has done is there to be seen. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. He robbed SLC the last time he was involved !!! That’s what he did , promoted his personal bank account not cricket.. amazing how he gets job back. Guess the old saying, “you make the bed you sleep on” …wake up SLC !

  2. Sportsmen’s talent are for the use of all mankind or the Universe. SL cricket was improved with the assistance of numerous foreigners from coaches to ……… . If sumathipala wants to improve SL cricket he must select the correct teams, correct resources, and train, train with a strategy. Do not find fault with Murali or any former SL Cricketing heroes. They are now part of the International talent pool. If you like you hire them, do not ignore, or criticise them. Will Murali be attacked if he is not from a minority community. That is the fundamental fault in our country.

  3. Good question Murali ! What has Thilanga Sumathipala ever done for Sri Lankan cricket ? Sumathipala’s quest for self-aggrandizement in a sport with which he has absolutely no qualifications, has led to the sports descent into embarrassment.

The fact that an enterprise that can not be anything but profitable has been turned into a loss making venture, speaks volumes for Sumathipala’s administrative skills.

Are Australians who lend their expertise to help development and hone technical skills in foreign teams traitors to Australia ? On the contrary, it is done for the development of the game.

Why Murali wastes his time replying to imbeciles is baffling to say the least.

  4. White man not only bought diaspora, he is alo buying local talents. Those days are gone, now days only few in billion will do the right things.
