The Ministry quoted Wang Yingqi, the commercial counselor of the Chinese embassy as saying that China is ready to assist Sri Lanka in every way possible.
He said that Sri Lanka is a close friend of China and China is fully involved in the development of the country.
Wang Yingqi said that the Chinese Embassy in Colombo will work with Sri Lanka and provide assistance where necessary.
The statement also said that the Minister of National Policy and Economics Affairs Niroshan Perera opened a new Chinese language training centre to assist the tourism industry which is heavily dependent on Chinese visitors.
The training centre was opened at a hotel training school located in Dambulla. Perera said that the training centre will be a big boost to the tourism industry in the country.
The highest number of tourists to visit Sri Lanka are from China but staff at local hotels find it difficult to communicate with the Chinese owing to a language barrier.
Perera said that today China and the Chinese language is accepted the world over. He said the Chinese language takes a key position in the tourism industry.
The Minister said that language training is important to improve the tourist sector in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
