Controlled price to be introduced on 15 essential items

The Government has decided to introduce a controlled price on 15 essential items, the Ministry of Finance said today.

The Finance Ministry said that the?items on which the?controlled price will be introduced includes sugar, dhal, potatoes and big onions. (Colombo Gazette)

VAT to be imposed on some private health services

The new amended Value Added Tax (VAT) will be imposed on some private health services as well, the Government said. According to the Government, the new VAT will not affect diagnostic tests, dialysis and OPD services. As per the budget proposals 2016, the special cabinet decision made on 04-03-2016 and as per the recommendation made by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Management on 15-06-2016, it has been?decided to amend the provisions on VAT.
