Biswal in Sri Lanka this week to discuss reconciliation efforts

Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal will travel to Sri Lanka this week. Deputy Assistant Secretary for South Asia Manpreet Singh Anand will accompany her.

The Us Embassy in Colombo said that before arriving in Sri Lanka, Biswal will be in Dhaka?where she?will meet with Government officials to discuss issues of shared concern and offer U.S. assistance to the Bangladeshi Government?s efforts to counter terrorism and violent extremism. She will also meet with the embassy community, local business, and other diplomatic representatives.

She will then travel to Colombo where she will meet with senior Government officials, political leaders, and civil society representatives to discuss bilateral economic cooperation as well as democratic governance and reconciliation. (Colombo Gazette)

Latest data shows extent virus has spread in Sri Lanka

The latest data released by the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health shows the extent to which the coronavirus has spread in Sri Lanka. A map published by the Epidemiology Unit shows almost the entire country as high risk with a number of cases reported within a 14-day period. Earlier, Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara were marked as high risk areas for the coronavirus. Covid death toll in Sri Lanka crosses the 4500 mark

The coronavirus death toll in Sri Lanka crossed the 4,500 mark today. The Ministry of Health said that another 67 deaths linked to the virus were confirmed today. The 67 deaths had occurred yesterday (31st July) and were confirmed today. This took the death toll from the pandemic in Sri Lanka to 4,508 today. The latest victims included 36 males and 31 females.
