The Navy said that on a request made by the Sri Lanka Customs, the Navy in coordination with the Coast Guard intercepted and boarded the bulk carrier in the seas 7.5 nautical miles off Galle.
The vessel had left Colombo anchorage without proper clearance while investigations were underway on the ship by Sri Lanka Customs.
Subsequently custom officials sought the assistance of the Navy to seizure of the vessel. Two Sri Lanka Navy Fast Attack Craft were dispatched from Galle along with Sri Lanka Coast Guard and custom officials.
Upon reaching the location, the ship was boarded by Sri Lankan officials and the ship with a 27 member crew onboard was seized. (Colombo Gazette)
