US gives Sri Lanka tips on training to eliminate WMD

The US Government has concluded a five-day workshop in Colombo for members of the Sri Lankan Ports Authority and Customs, Police, Navy, and Coast Guard to provide training on eliminating the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

Led by U.S. military experts from the International Counterproliferation Program (ICP), the workshop covered themes such as border security, technology, and threat assessment, the US Embassy in Colombo said.

The embassy added that the program builds upon a strengthening US-Sri Lankan partnership that includes enhanced cooperation in security in the Indian Ocean Region. (Colombo Gazette)

A Police sergeant has been arrested while he was accepting a bribe, the Commission to investigate allegations of bribery or corruption said. The cop, attached to the Pelmadulla Police, was in the process of accepting Rs. 50,000 as a bribe from an individual to provide the original documents of a Police complaint when he was arrested.
