UPFA Parliamentarian Sarath Amunugama said that the decision was conveyed to party leader, President Maithripala Sirisena.
He said the UPFA expects the President to meet Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to discuss issue and reach an amicable solution.
The United National Party (UNP) had said this week that Mahendran has been re-appointed to the post after his term came to an end.
Amunugama said Arjuna Mahendran was appointed to fill the vacancy created to the post replacing former Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal.
He says the President must now appoint a new Governor and the UPFA has proposed that Arjuna Mahendran not be re-appointed owing to the concerns raised over some of his actions.
Meanwhile, Amunugama also said that the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) and the EPDP have decided to extend support to the UPFA.
He also said that several members of the joint opposition are expected to join the UPFA in the near future. (Colombo Gazette)
