Sumanthiran meets Zeid, discusses concerns raised by Tamils

ClEOsa1WkAAoGePTamil National Alliance (TNA) member of Parliament M A Sumanthiran met the UN High Commissioner for Human Right Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein today and discussed concerns raised by Tamils.

The meeting comes as Zeid prepares to make an oral update on Sri Lanka at the ongoing 32nd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Zeid Ra’ad had said earlier this week that there needs to be inclusive and meaningful engagement of all Sri Lankans when implementing the resolution on Sri Lanka adopted by the UN Human Rights Council last year.

Speaking during the opening of the 32nd session of the UN Human Rights Council, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein said that in Sri Lanka, the Government’s efforts to implement its commitments in Resolution 30/1 will require a comprehensive strategy on transitional justice that enables it to pursue different processes in a coordinated, integrated and appropriately sequenced manner.

Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein is to present an oral update on Sri Lanka on June 29 based on his visit to Sri Lanka earlier this year.

Earlier this week Sumanthiran also had talks with US Assistant Secretary of State Nisha Biswal during a visit to the US. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Sumanthiran would feel better being in this picture than working with Sinhalese to develop Sri Lanka. Surely, he has received good hospitality and some other gifts, of course including dollars; this will keep him going for a while. Typical dirty Tamil who sells his own people and motherland for his own perks and benefits.

  2. Talks will continue for ever. Time covering exercise without even a sign of Distant Dawn. It is time for Tamil leaders not to depend on Diaspora and West. They must now look at China

  3. who the bloody hell is Zeid tod ecide on the fate of tamils and the Sinhalese they should not interfere in internal affairs of a country

  4. Prince Hussain and the International community should know the tactics of sl officials to stall and fizzle out the mandate of UNHRC.

  5. One need not persuade or advice or instil UN Rights Commisioner or the UN for that matter as what to do the rightful thing about the genocide that took place in Sri Lanka . If the International community is in the correct mind ,they would have established an international forum to investigate the crimes committed by the Sri Lankan armed forces during the civil war. Sumanthiran and Sambanthan ‘s voices are just wastage and only they who gets the popularity and the Tamils would not get justice from the International Community or by this or any other Sri Lankan governments.
