Wimal defends allegations raised against Central Bank chief

Arjuna MahendranOpposition National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa today defended the allegations raised against Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran and the use of Central Bank funds.

He said that Mahendran has used an official credit card given by the bank for private use, including for personal entertainment.

“He is using bank funds for private use and credit cards bills made public prove this,” he said.

He said the Central Bank Governor has used nearly Rs. 14 million of bank funds for his private use through the credit card.

The Central Bank has denied the allegations but Weerawansa says the bank is yet to prove the allegations wrong. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Actually our Central Bank has no accounts or audit department. This is the problem. All educated senior offcials are afraid to talk.
