Major fire, explosions at Kosgama army camp, residents evacuated

A major fire erupted at the Salawa army camp in Kosgama resulting in multiple explosions at the camp?forcing the police to evacuate nearby residents.

Army spokesman, Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said that the fire erupted at an armoury and spread in the camp.

He said that the air force and navy are assisting in attempts to douse the flames while the Colombo Fire brigade had also been deployed.

The army spokesman?said that Army Commander?Chrishantha de Silva has also gone to inspect the situation in the area.

Residents in the area said that glass windows in some houses in the area were also damaged following the vibrations caused by the explosions.?(Colombo Gazette)
