Opposition says MR’s army security fully withdrawn despite concerns

The opposition says the army security of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been fully withdrawn despite concerns raised over the decision.

Joint opposition member of Parliament Keheliya Rambukwella told reporters today that Rajapaksa was the only person who refused to give-in to pressure to stop the war against the LTTE.

He said that protests were staged even overseas against the former President in an attempt to stop the defeat of the LTTE.

Rambukwella said that the refused by?Rajapaksa to agree to the wishes of the international community was seen as Sri Lanka making enemies with the West.

The former Minister said that some foreign Governments are taking revenge on Rajapaksa with the support of the current Sri Lankan Government and the withdrawal of the army security earlier given to Rajapaksa is the?first step in that direction.

Rambukwella also said that the Government is betraying the military by allowing UN officials to inspect military camps in the country.

He said the decision to allow a UN team to visit the Navy base in Trincomalee recently was unacceptable.

Rambukwella said that?Rajapaksa is now gathering more and more support as a result of some of the actions of the Government and so his army security has been withdrawn.?(Colombo Gazette)

Curfew to continue indefinitely in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara

Curfew in Colombo to be reimposed at 2 pm
