Seven Indian fishermen arrested, fishing trawler seized

Seven fishermen from Tamil Nadu were arrested today by Naval personnel for allegedly fishing in Sri Lankan?territorial waters.

The seven, part of groups of fishermen who put out to sea from Ramweswaram, have been taken to Talaimannar, Rameswaram Fishermen Association President T. Sesuraja said, according to the Press Trust of India.

The arrest came on the first day of fishermen resuming their work after the end of a 45-day-long annual fish breeding season ban on fishing using mechanised boats.

He said the other fishermen who returned to the shores got a good harvest of prawns and other varieties of fish. (Colombo Gazette)
