Seychelles keen to collaborate with Sri Lanka to meet challenges

Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports in Seychelles, Vincent MeritonThe Seychelles Government says it is keen to collaborate with Sri Lanka to meet challenges in various fields.

Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports in Seychelles, Vincent Meriton told the Colombo Gazette, his Government admires the assistance rendered by Sri Lanka for its fisheries industry and to face environmental issues.

The Minister added that further strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two island nations will be important for both Sri Lanka and Seychelles.

He also said that as a Government that is focused on enhancing the living standards of its people, the Government of Seychelles is interested in joining hands with other countries in the world to face the challenges that could arise in the future.

Meanwhile Vincent Meriton also said that his Government is willing to collaborate with Sri Lanka in developing sports activities and that they are prepared to re-initiate a joint sports agreement entered into with the previous Sri Lankan Government.

Stating that the previous Sri Lankan Government had sought their assistance in adding Sri Lanka in to the “Indian Ocean Islands Games”, a sports competition that is held once every seven years with the participation of seven island nations in the region, the Minister said that such plans could not be initiated due to political shifts that took place afterwards.
