Swaminathan and IGP discuss security situation in Jaffna

4T2A4844A meeting took place today between Minister of Prison Reforms Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs D.M. Swaminathan and IGP Pujith Jayasundara.

The meeting was held to discuss about the current security situation in Jaffna. Concerns were raised about the violent crimes reported from Jaffna including the incidents that involved the ‘ Ava’ criminal gang.

The IGP and the Minister discussed about how to curb these gang related activities, sword attacks and other violent incidents that were reported from Jaffna during the past weeks.

IGP Pujith Jayasundara informed Minister Swaminathan that several more arrests have to be made with regard to these recent violent incidents.

‘The meeting with the IGP was very successful. Both parties agreed that swift measures have to be taken to curb such criminal activity in Jaffna. I also suggested to the IGP to direct his attention towards setting up a hotline through which people can report such incidents immediately to the Police using the Tamil language ’ Minister Swaminathan stated.
