Anura Senanayake taken into custody in connection to Thajudeen murder

Anura SenanayakeFormer senior DIG Anura Senanayake was taken into custody by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today in connection to the murder of former Sri Lanka national rugger player Wasim Thajudeen.

He was produced in court and remanded till May 26.

Senanayake was arrested after being questioned earlier in the day and was accused of concealing evidence when he was involved in the investigations.

He was questioned previously as well in connection to the controversial case.

Earlier this month the police DIG in charge of motor traffic Amarasiri Senaratne was also questioned by the CID over Thajudeen’s murder.

The Colombo Additional Magistrate in February ordered the CID to arrest the suspects linked to Thajudeen’s murder.

Thajudeen died on May 17, 2012 in Kirulapone and his body was found in his car which had crashed into a wall.

According to police reports in 2012, the rugby player was driving home after attending a party when he lost control of the car and crashed into a wall on Park Road.

The police claimed that the car had exploded instantly and burnt the victim.

However suspicions later arose over the manner in which he died and it was believed that he was murdered. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Taking Anura Senanayake into custody is a window dressing. So many have been arrested
so far and released without any actions. How long this govt. hoodwink the innocent Srilankan
    citizens?.

  2. CID Officers

    Great, Well Done

You have done an exceptionally unusual job in the history of Mother Lanka. No other police officer would have dared to do such professional job.

There should be officers like you in the police force to root out criminals in the police force like Waas Gunewardene and Anura senanayake. We never knew there are offiicers like you all the SL police force.

Please keep it up and help justice in the coutry to be restored.

We the common people are with you and demand you should be rewarded for your fearless integrity..

  3. He will be out on bail soon just like all the other culprits. We are waiting to see the day when these rogues, who were like kings doing everything illegal and protected by the Rajapaksas, go to jail.

  4. Time for cops to disregard politicians orders and follow the law. This will save them, their families, name of the Police and more importantly the country and the children including that of Police officers!

  5. Arrest the man behind rather than who were forced to do.
When they arrest the all who violated HR in North and East

  6. He better tell who gave the dirty orders. From hitler to Sadam, all dictators and/or their regimes have lost it so far except in Cuba and North Korea.

  7. The Yahapalanaya is stuck with the Thajudeen body and they have to come up with some drama to coverup the initial drama. This is another fart just like the Januarry 8th coup.

  8. Anura, at least now tell the truth and get a clear conscience before you reach final day of life which is not that far. Also do it justice by your own kith and kin especially your children and grandchildren to come not forgetting fellow citizens.

Looks like someone has broken your piyapath the wings after all.

  9. This is all bull s*it. Just fooling the people to cover up their own connivance in fraud and corruption. The Governing Party has no doubt agreed to share the massive funds stolen by the Rajapaksa clan. Twelve (12) months passed and no one has been charged — except for parading the culprits before various crooked commissions— again and again to fool the people.
It is time to end this circus!
