Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif orders officials to send help to Sri Lanka

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed his?officials to send all the?necessary assistance to the Government and people of Sri Lanka, as required for the rescue and relief operations,?SAMAA TV reported.

The Pakistan Government also extended condolences to Sri Lanka after the devastating floods and heavy rainfall killed more than 200 people and left thousands of others homeless in the island nation.

?Pakistan offers condolences to the Government and people of Sri Lanka over the loss of more than 200 precious lives and the displacement of more than 400,000 people due to the devastating floods and the record rainfall in Sri Lanka,? a statement by the Foreign Office said.

?Pakistan expresses solidarity with all those who have suffered due to these rains,? it said.

?The people of Pakistan stand with the brotherly people of Sri Lanka at this time of grief,? it added. (Colombo Gazette)

Three human rights reports in Parliament

The report by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on Sri Lanka as well as the reports by?Nissanka Udalagama and Maxwell Paranagama were tabled in?Parliament today. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe presented the reports and they will be taken for debate by Parliament on Thursday. Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) leader Dinesh Gunawardena however requested that the resolution on Sri Lanka adopted by the UN Human Rights Council recently also be tabled in Parliament.

Ravi warns companies not paying bonuses

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake told Parliament that the government is in search for big companies that are not paying bonus payments to employees. ?I was disappointed with some of the companies that pretended to be paying Super Gains Tax and stop certain payments,? ?There is no right to any of them to deprive any money going out to the hard working employees of their company.?
