Low pressure moving away but heavy rain to continue today

The low pressure area is moving away from Sri Lanka so the rainy conditions over the island will be reduced to some extent, but strong wind conditions will continue for a few?more days, the department of meteorology said this morning.

Heavy to very heavy falls (100-150 mm) are likely at several places, particularly in the North, North Central, North Western provinces.

Showers or thunder showers will occur at time in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva provinces and Galle and Matara districts.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. (Colombo Gazette)

Five people shot dead in Beliatta

Five people who were travelling in a jeep were shot dead in Beliatta, in southern Sri Lanka, today, (Monday) Police said. According to reports, four people died at the scene of the crime and another person died on admission to hospital. The assailants had reportedly arrived in a vehicle and opened fire targeting the Defender jeep in which the victims were traveling. The shooting took place near the Southern Expressway. Grave concerns raised over Ranil’s attempt to enforce dictatorship
