Mahinda’s army security withdrawn and replaced with STF

MahindaThe army security detail of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was withdrawn today and replaced with the police Special Task Force.

Rajapaksa said that 50 army personnel assigned for him had been withdrawn. He said that the police personnel assigned to him are not trained on VVIP security.

Rajapaksa’s media unit said that the former President’s life is under threat as he defeated the world’s most powerful terrorist organization, the LTTE.

“This has been understood even by the general public. Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa is the only living leader in the world who defeated a powerful terrorist organization. Therefore it is the public opinion that Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa should be given proper military protection,” Rajapaksa’s media unit said.

His media unit further noted that the withdrawal of 50 well-trained army personnel has placed the life of the former President in danger and that it is the duty of the Government to provide sufficient military protection to safeguard his life. (Colombo Gazette)
