Sri Lanka batsman Kaushal Silva was declared to be out of danger after suffering a blow to his head on Sunday during a practice match at Pallekele on Sunday (April 24). Silva was fielding at short-leg and got hit on the back of his head despite wearing a helmet with additional padding when Dinesh Chandimal swept a ball. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Kandy where he underwent a CAT scan.
He was then airlifted to a hospital in Colombo and will be monitored as a precautionary measure. He was left dazed for some time immediately after the impact.
“Kaushal was fielding at short leg when he got hit,” team manager Charith Senanayake was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo. [Dinesh Chandimal] swept right onto the back of Kaushal’s head. He did take evasive action, but still the ball hit him,”
The Sri Lankan cricketers have been preparing for the England tour with this two-day practice match and Silva had scored a ton on the first day. (Courtesy Cricbuzz)
