There have been claims the support for the joint opposition is growing and that the May Day rally of the joint opposition will see a big turnout.
However UNP General Secretary Kabir Hashim said that the joint opposition has no moral right to celebrate May Day.
He said that while the joint opposition, when in power, burdened the public, the UNP has taken steps to meet the needs of the working class.
Hashim said that under the UNP led Government the basic salary of Government employees has been increased while a Bill has been submitted in parliament to increase the salaries of private sector employees.
He said the joint opposition is looking for a place to hold their May Day rally but they have no right to hold such a rally in the first place. (Colombo Gazette)
