Advisor to the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development and former chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Vidya Amarapala has resigned from his post pending investigations over his name being linked to allegations of fraud .
Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said that Vidya Amarapala’s name has been linked to the files leaked from a Panamanian law firm called Mossack Fonseca which includes information on more than 210,000 companies in 21 offshore jurisdictions, from Panama to Hong Kong.
The leaked files known as the ‘Panama Papers’ has made allegations on Singapore based Sovereign Capital Corporation in which Amarapala was a Director from 2003 – 2010.
Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said that he has instructed the Ministry Secretary to file a complaint at the FCID to investigate if Sovereign Capital Corporation was involved in financial fraud. (Colombo Gazette)
