Indian fishermen freed by Sri Lanka reach Karaikal in Puducherry

Sri-Lankan-Fishermen-RescuedA total of 96 fishermen, who were released by Sri Lanka, have returned to Karaikal in Puducherry, India, The Hindu newspaper reported.

The fishermen belonging to Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai and Tuticorin, were arrested by the Sri Lankan authorities for trespassing into the Sri Lankan waters on different occasions.

Upon taking control of the fishermen, Cost Guard ships Abheek and Rani Durgavati brought them to Karaikal.

On arrival, the fisheries authorities, fishermen leaders, friends and relatives received them at the Karaikal port. (Colombo Gazette)
