Speaking to reporters in Colombo today on his just concluded visit to China, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the agreement will be finalised before the visit by the Chinese Prime Minister to Sri Lanka.
Wickremesinghe said that Sri Lanka and China had laid down an economic strategy for the coming two decades which would help Sri Lanka transform into an international economic hub in the Indian Ocean.
He said that he had held successful talks with the Chinese leaders and appreciated the support received by the Chinese government.
“We held very successful discussions on a range of issues and China is going to be working with us,” he said.
“The economic strategy between Sri Lanka and China for the next two decades has been laid down and since we are going to be the hub of the Indian Ocean there is going to be a significant difference here,” the Prime Minister added.
He further said that both sides had also agreed to resume the Port City project which will be transformed into a special financial and business district.
The project will be part of a megapolis programme which was launched by the Government earlier this year. (Colombo Gazette)
