CEB questioned on procurement of electricity from a private supplier

CEBThe Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has questioned the decision taken by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to procure electricity from a private supplier.

In response to a letter sent by the CEB, the PUCSL has said that certain requirements have not been met when obtaining electricity from ACE Power Embilipitiya (Pvt) Ltd.

The CEB said that cabinet approval has been obtained to purchase electricity from ACE Power Embilipitiya (Pvt) Ltd. However PUCSL says it was not consulted before cabinet approval was sought.

The PUSL also notes that the power plant is not provided for in the Least Cost Long Term Generation Expansion Plan of the CEB.

PUSL further notes that the CEB can obtain power from various other approved sources to meet the energy needs of the country. (Colombo Gazette)
