Government blames former regime for economic crisis

Harin-FernandoThe Government today blamed the former regime headed by then President Mahinda Rajapaksa for the economic crisis in the country.

Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure Minister Harin Fernando said that the current Government has been forced to look for ways to settle the loans taken by the former Government for high interest.

He said that while some people are accusing the current Government of not initiating enough development projects since taking office last year, the reality is that the Government is working on ways to settle the loans taken by the former Government.

The Minister said that Rajapaksa launched a development drive to boost his image and now the country is suffering having to pay back the loans taken for the projects implemented by the former regime without proper planning.

Fernando said that the current Government is now taking loans at lower interest to pay back the loans and at the same time develop the country. (Colombo Gazette)
