The hijacker emerged from the aircraft with his hands in the air, state TV said.
“Its over,” Cyprus’s foreign ministry said in a tweet.
Earlier the hijacker of the EgyptAir airplane that was diverted to Cyprus on Tuesday had asked for the release of female prisoners in Egypt, the Cyprus state broadcaster reported.
All but seven people on board the aircraft, which was traveling from Alexandria to Cairo, had been released. The pilot had reported that the hijacker was strapped with explosives. (Courtesy Reuters)
