US appreciates vision of Sri Lanka following polls last year

US shipThe United States says it respects and appreciates the values that the Sri Lankan voters voted for in the two elections of January 8 and August 17 of last year.

The US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Atul Keshap said the US appreciates the vision of the Sri Lankan people for their country to be a reconciled, peaceful, unified, prosperous, and free democracy that can be a pillar of stability and prosperity for the entire Indo-Pacific region.

“We appreciate very much the vision of the Sri Lankan people and the American people are reciprocating,” he said.

The Ambassador was speaking at a reception held on the US Navy ship, the USS Blue Ridge, at the Colombo port today.

“John Kerry said when he was here in May of last year, for the first visit by a US Secretary of State in 41 years, that we will support the vision of the Sri Lankan people and the Sri Lankan voters. And we are doing so through this ship visit, through the Millennium Challenge Corporation, through the visits by many American senior officials, and by the presence of all of you,” Ambassador Atul Keshap said.

He noted that this is the very first visit by a United States ship in five years and he expressed hope that this will be the first of many to come. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. The country must adopt good foreign policies and maintain all the time. But major political parties have different foreign policies in Sri Lanka. It shows political immaturity, lack of strategy and division. No matter who comes to power, smart Sri Lankans always ignored. This has been the reality since the independence. The real betrayers are not politicians, not voters, but Sri Lankan media editors. Utter fools decide what people should know and how to inform to the people. Sad isn’t it?
