As the scheduled power-cuts finally came to an end today, Power and Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that he will submit to Parliament next week proposals on how the country can avert another power crisis.
In a statement this morning, the Minister said that the Norochcholai coal power plant was back in operation from last night adding 600 MW of electricity to the National grid.
As a result he says the Ministry was able to cancel the scheduled power-cuts from today.
The Minister expressed regret over the power-cuts which were implemented this week following the sudden breakdown at Biyagama last Sunday.
He says he will be making a statement in Parliament next Wednesday on the issue and will also submit proposals on how such a crisis can be avoided in future. (Colombo Gazette)
