Government insists Port City has met all the conditions

Ravi KThe Government insists the Port City project has met all the conditions put forward by the Government and this is why it has been cleared to resume work.

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said that the environment concerns over the project has also been cleared.

He insisted that the project was never cancelled but only temporarily suspended till the conditions put forward by the Government were met.

The Minister said that when the former Government gave approval for the project there were some concerns which were never addressed.

However he says the current Government ensured the concerns, including those raised on the impact to the environment from the project, were addressed before the project was cleared to recommence work.

The Minister also accused the media of duplicity saying when the project was approved by the former Government the media did not raise concerns over it but now they are questioning the decision to approve it after the conditions were met. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Now it is the time these people to resign. Current Government was given power, because these ‘uncapable people’ accused previous government for getting China to build Port City. Shameless Minister, resigning is the only thing left for you. You delayed Sri Lanka’s development and the West will never let Sri Lanka to raise the head again.
