Fonseka claimed that Rajapaksa committed the crime when he was in the military and served as a lieutenant in the army ‘Sinha Regiment’ unit.
Fonseka said that the soldier initially had a chest pain when he was taken for training to the Minneriya jungle.
The former army chief said that Rajapaksa, who was in charge of the training at the time, had ordered some of the other soldiers to drag the sick soldier on the ground.
“When he was being dragged on the ground he was kicked several times by Gotabhaya,” Fonseka claimed.
Fonseka said that the solder died in the jungle and some soldiers then assaulted Gotabhaya and the others who dragged the soldier on the ground.
Fonseka, now a Minister in the Government, said that Rajapaksa went into hiding for a month as a result of the incident.
Fonseka says he has the evidence to back the story and is ready to debate it on live TV if Rajapaksa disputes the claim. (Colombo Gazette)
