Power chief set to resign following unprecedented blackout

Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Anura Wijepala is set to resign following an unprecedented Nationwide blackout today.

Wijepala said that he will step down after the power-cut which lasted for over seven hours affecting the entire country.

The power-cut resulted in a disruption to the water supply?in several areas while other?public services operating on electricity?were also affected.

Huge traffic jams rarely seen on a Sunday night were also witnessed?in several areas as the street traffic lights had stopped working.

The power cut was the longest experienced in the country in several years and it prompted the Government to call for a special meeting after suspicions arose if there was foul play. (Colombo Gazette)

Three fake cops arrested

Three suspects who had posed as Police officers and had robbed people of their jewellery and money have been arrested by the Wattala Police. Sri Lanka to receive 1.5 million Moderna jabs this week

Sri Lanka is to receive 1.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine this week, the Government announced today.
