United National Party parliamentarian and Minister Lakshman Kiriella said that the Government has been able to bridge the gap between all communities.
He urged the public to protect the Government and give it time as it rebuilds the country.
The Minister said that the United National Party could have formed a Government on its own after the Parliamentary election last year.
However he recalled that it was decided that the two main political parties must join hands and form a cohabitation Government to rebuild the country.
Lakshman Kiriella also dismissed the allegations being raised by the opposition on the proposed deal with India.
He said that the opposition is making false claims by saying that local doctors will lose their jobs as a result of the proposed agreement.
The Minister insisted that the jobs of Sri Lankan doctors is not at risk as claimed by the opposition and that the agreement will not pose any harm to the country.
He said that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and others in the Government have closely studied the proposal before deciding to go ahead with it. (Colombo Gazette)
